Episode 20: Christmas With The Beatles
Merry Crimble! The holiday spirit is in full swing at Cable 8 as Frank and Rachel discuss the Christmas records The Beatles sent to members of their fan club and the two most iconic Christmas songs made by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Meanwhile, Frank wonders if any of The Beatles had recorded any of the classic Christmas songs such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and finally gets an answer to his question.
Did you know that The Beatles made a series of Christmas records that they sent to members of their fan club? They were composed of personal messages from John, Paul, George and Ringo and often had little skits that were performed as well as medleys of some of their songs. They’re quite hilarious to listen to!
They did create a Christmas song called Christmastime is Here Again which Ringo Starr did record on his own Christmas album called I Want To Be Santa Claus which features classic songs such as Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer and The Little Drummer Boy which is well worth a listen because he gives these songs a more rock and roll feel and overall the album is a lot of fun to listen to as well.
Now a question for you all: which song do you think paints the image of Christmas in your head? John Lennon’s Happy Xmas (War is Over) or Paul McCartney’s Wonderful Christmastime? Send Rachel an email with your thoughts to rachel@wrenthamcable8.com and let us know what you think! Your answers might get read on the air!
