Episode 24: A Hard Day’s Night (1964)

Frank is once again joined by Rachel and a new guest of the show, Howard Cohen, as they discuss the third studio album and the feature film debut The Beatles made of the same name: A Hard Day’s Night.

A Hard Day’s Night is the third studio album from The Beatles. It was released on July 10th, 1964. This album contains all original songs by The Beatles. No covers and it is the only album that Ringo Starr doesn’t sing on and is all songs entirely compsed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. To this day, it is still highly regarded as one of the most significant rock albums and you’ll hear why when you listen to it!

In March of 1964, The Beatles began filming their first feature film of the same name. It’s a musical comedy that chronicles two “typical” days in the life of The Beatles as they prep for a telelvsion event while evading screaming fans and also having to deal with Paul’s grandfather (Wilfred Brambell) who keeps causing mischief for the four wherever he goes.

The film has been credited to being one of the most influential for all music films as this film inspired The Monkees’ TV show and pop music videos. Unlike most films which are usually shot out of order, the film was nearly filmed in order. Several of the locations were filmed in and around London.
