The band was originally founded by John Lennon and Paul McCartney when the group was known as The Quarrymen in the 1950s. The lineup consisted as such: Paul McCartney on the bass, George Harrison as the lead guitarist, John Lennon on rhythm guitar and Ringo Starr on the drums.
