Episode 10: Let It Be (1970)

In this episode of Beatle Banter, Dan Holmes joins Rachel in the co-hosting chair today as the two of them discuss the last album in The Beatles’s discography before they broke up for good: Let It Be.

The two discuss the stories behind the songs, some of their favorites off of the album, when they first heard it and more.

Let It Be is the final album The Beatles recorded. It was released on May 8th, 1970, a month after The Beatles had broken up.

The last time the group performed together was for a rooftop concert that was held on January 30th, 1969. The concert was performed on top of Apple Corps and 3 Savile Row.

Paul McCartney had conceioved this project because he was worried about the recent frictions among the band and saw this album as a way for the band to get back to their roots as ensemble playing and was eager for The Beatles to come back to live performance.

Billy Preston, an American keyboardist, was recruited to join the band on the recording of this album and helped to improve the tense atmosphere greatly.

On Disney+, you can watch the Peter Jackson documentary called Get Back and it explores more of the rehearsal process for this album.
