Episode 3: Rubber Soul (1965)
Frank and Paul discuss another album The Beatles released in 1965: Rubber Soul. This album sees a rise in maturity in The Beatles' song lyrics and musicianship and saw the band adopting the practice of making albums as part of the artistic process and more.
Rubber Soul was the sixth studio album The Beatles created. It was released a few months after their album, HELP! on December 3rd, 1965. This album was accompanied by the non double album A-Side single “Day Tripper”, which is our theme song for Beatle Banter and “We Can Work It Out.”
As you listen, you’ll notice the maturity of lyrics and melodies from The Beatles. A lot of the songs have a Bob Dylan influence on them as well. See if you can guess which ones!
“Rubber Soul was a matter of having all experienced the recording studio, having grown musically as well, but [getting] the knowledge of the place, of the studio. We were more precise about making the album, that's all, and we took over the cover and everything.”
– John Lennon
