Episode 4: Revolver (1966)
Frank is joined by Rachel Bartlett, the writer, editor and research assistant of the show and fellow Beatles fan, Dan Holmes as they discuss The Beatles’s psychedelic period and one of the most innovative albums the band created after they decided to stop touring and spent more time playing around in the studio with different sounds and the contributing factor of LSD: Revolver.
Revolver is the seventh studio album by The Beatles. It was released on August 5th, 1966. This album was the band’s first foray into the pyschedelic rock period and saw more usage of the studio. On August 29th, 1966, The Beatles stopped touring and played their last concert at Candlestick Park in San Franscisco, CA. There were several reasons why they no longer toured: one of the main reasons was they couldn’t hear themselves onstage due to all the screaming and it made them weary.
The album artwork you see at the left here was designed by a friend of The Beatles: Klaus Voorman. He was approached by John Lennon to create this cover and you see the same cover art style for George Harrison’s 1988 hit single: “When We Was Fab.”
